Profile
A Director  of Denovo Design, who leads a diverse range of projects, both locally on Merseyside, but also nationally from Plymouth to Dundee, Dave is inspired by technical and aesthetic challenges, and revelling in the intellectual stimulus of climate change, new technologies, and extensive train travelling! Dave enjoys the buzz of the great team and direct discussion, and is particularly interested in developing collaboration with fellow professionals and contractors.

Local Projects  Include:-
Jack Jones House for Unite the Union - Director responsible from inception to completion.
The project (part of a national rollout programme on behalf of Unite the Union)  involved close collaboration with Liverpool Conservation and Planning Departments in  the ‘recycling’ of this well known, iconic,  ‘gateway’ building in Liverpool City Centre.   The original building, which had lain derelict for some years,  had been designed to house the Transport and General Workers’ Union.  However, the new ‘Unite’ Union, operating in significantly different ways, required much greater collaborative working with more open working spaces and greater meeting rooms. The Client also had a strong requirement to maximise commercial return, which was done by incorporating flexible space into the design, which featured  the addition of an upper floor providing access to some of the best views across St George’s plateau and down William Brown Street.

The project, maximising use of local trades and local materials,  also incorporates a number of environmental products and technologies all of which enhance the working environment, with many also helping to reduce utilities consumption and expenditure.

A highly collaborative approach with Building Control minimised compliance and quality control issues on site, resulting in a success completion.

Large Private Residence, South Liverpool
Director responsible from inception to completion. Working in conjunction with the contractor and client, a high quality, large modern dwelling was successfully created that exceeded the client’s expectations for a family home.

Large Private Residential extension, Wirral
Director responsible from inception to completion. Recently completed, this large project involved both extension and complete refurbishment of the existing house, using the largest single glass window available in Europe. A highly productive collaboration between Liverpool and local building control.

National Projects Include:
New-build offices in Stoke, Coventry & Portsmouth, and whole-building refurbishments for Unite the Union in Bristol, Plymouth,  Peterborough, Cardiff and others. Director responsible from inception to completion.

These projects all involved considerable collaboration between consultants, clients and contractors, and in all cases were undertaken under the LABC Partnering system with highly productive outcomes.

Hotel remodelling, Eastbourne: . Director responsible from inception to completion. A complex, lengthy project that completely remodelled an existing 120 room hotel in a ‘back to concrete’, floor by floor programme whilst still remaining open. Again undertaken as part of the LABC Partnering system.

PERSONAL:
Born and Educated in Liverpool, married with 2 post-university children and living still in South Liverpool. Studying under Ken Martin at Liverpool Polytechnic (now JMU), post qualification experience spanned the period from manual drawing boards to fully computerised offices. An ongoing enthusiasm for developing new ways of working include recent trials within the office of real-time virtual reality 3D visualisations and ‘working model’ stereoscopic presentations. Outside of the office, David is a continuing exponent of collaborative process and developing ways to bring large-practice systems to smaller, more nimble companies.
